ABOUT US & our purpose
We are a diverse group of UBC students of many different gender identities from ENGL 309 class whom research the current state of trans health care at UBC and around the Lower Mainland.
We acknowledge that we are conducting this work on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish people — specifically the sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations.
This website is meant to synthesize our class’ findings on providers, educational resources, and the history of gender-affirming care at UBC and in the Lower Mainland to help those interested in accessing this care or learning more about it. The purpose of this project is multifaceted. In the “Education” and “History of Gender Affirming Care” pages of our website, we aim to summarize the history of gender-affirming care in BC and provide a variety of additional resources for those interested in learning more about this kind of care. Meanwhile, in the “Providers” page, we list and evaluate several gender-affirming care providers based on a specific set of criteria that we devised for those interested in accessing this kind of care.
These resources are by no means comprehensive, but hopefully they offer a starting point for those hoping to develop their knowledge around gender-affirming care both at UBC and within BC as a whole. Our findings should not be considered separate or more important than the work already done by other groups and individuals, particularly those who come from gender-diverse backgrounds. These people have been working on this topic for many years, and their work must be recognized.
We hope you find this website helpful, but please also consider looking to other resources to learn more on this subject. We have hyperlinks to other materials across this website, as well as a page for additional resources.
